Hello everyone out there.  My name is Roberta, I am 26 years old and I live in Florida.   I am just starting my entrepreneurial journey.  I am passionate about starting a concert promoting/ event planning business here in Florida but I have no idea where to start.  I am looking for any advice, I am all open ears.

I have been a member of the site for a couple days now and to be honest with you, I couldn`t figure out where to start.  So I just browsed everywhere.  I finally decided to open up and get the advice that I really signed up for.  I am really looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say and cant wait to put some of your input and advice to use.

My goal with starting a concert promotion/ event planning business is to give us young adults something more to do on a regular basis besides going to the movies or a night club with a bunch of 21 year olds (no offense).  I hate having a free night from my kids and nothing to do but go to the movie, I personally  much rather watch movies at home on my couch, but that is just me.  I have been sitting on this idea for over 3 years now and finally decided to take action.  My only request:  PLEASE HELP!

I look forward to hearing from any and every one
Roberta

You have a great idea, but there is one thing I need to know?
  • Where are you in Florida
  • Have you considered what entertaiment venue you wish to promote
  • Do you have Microsoft Office software or anything similar?
  • Do you have a decent printer that does not run out of ink quickly? 2 printers is a good idea - one for black & white, the other for color presentations.
  • You say in your post you have thought about it for 3 years. Have you written these ideas down on paper?
  • Have you considered your target audience beyond the age factor, but also ethnic, or religious as well? The dollar is green no matter who spends it!
  • Do you have a Blog(s) or web site to let people know your there for them?
Roberta, these are some things I would need to know to be able to give you some good ideas on just how to get your business started. I once years ago promoted a rock & roll band sucsessfuly, and enjoyed every minute I spent doing it! The band disolved years later, but I had learned much I can share with you now.

Heres my email sandiadollar@gmail.com

Shootme an email, and tell me more of what you want to do. Oh and by the way, I do not live there any longer but I have lived on both coast, and many cities in Florida, I know alot about most of the areas central FL, to South FL.

Hi Roberta!

Several years ago I teamed up with a group of friends to put together a concert series which we could promote to raise funds for area charities.  We created a not-for-profit organization and called it `Concerts for a Cause`. Though you may not be interested in creating a NFP, I imagine the process to build this would be somewhat similar.

Concerts for a Cause was a huge success.  It went so well that we were able to raise enough funds to build a transitional house for a local shelter as well as provide much needed funds for other local groups in a very short time.

I can put you in contact with one of the other founders who could tell you how they got started.  If this interests you let me know.

Mitey Mite,

Thank you so much.  The information would be of great help and I would be foolish to turn away free information.

Do have any advice for me as I head into this venture?

Here are a few tips you may consider...

Find opportunities to hook up with a seasoned event promoter in your area to get your feet wet and hone your promotional skills. It`s a good way to gain valuable experience as well as some insight on what to do and what not to do as you plan for your business.  Once you decide to take the leap consider keeping the business small but agile.  You`ll need to be flexible to handle all the different aspects of event planning and/or concert promoting.  Starting small will help.  Also, try to keep your expenses to a minimum.  These can add up quickly and you can`t always count on making it up at the gate.  And one last thing....Don`t serve frozen fruit to your artists!
