Hi, I’m a part of a budding two person professional service based business in California. We are considering our options as far as legal structure.

A sticking point we’ve encountered is that we can only obtain health insurance plans for two or more employees.

Since there are just the two of us, how can we structure ourselves in such a way that both of us are considered employees? Is this possible? I’ve found NOLO’S Small Business Start-Up Kit for California to be very informative, but they do not address this. Are there any suggestions or references anyone can recommend?

I would suggest speaking to a professional.  I got some great info from insuremonkey.com when I was looking for information about catastrophic health insurance.

You can pick different sort of health insurance coverage at startup, look for complete coverage or buy a specific plan to cover definite services offered by your company. buy affordable plans with minimal effect on your fund value.
