The Magic Pill for Publicity Success
Many new entrepreneurs often ask me how they can easily get media members to talk about their products and services. Basically, they want a “magic success pill.” And I completely understand.
After working diligently to turn your idea into a real business, you just want to get things going and “watch the money roll in.” But I’m sorry to say that’s not the case – especially with PR.
To build buzz, you need to spend some time and effort on a regular basis improving your interview skills, creating newsworthy story ideas and building valuable media relationships.
And this is true even if you want to outsource your publicity activities. When you hire publicists, they work with you to get interviews and write appropriate content to build buzz.
But when it comes right down to it, you need to be able to share valuable information, offer passionate and interesting interviews, communicate with the press, and be a good sales person.
This way, you will become a valuable source for media members and boost credibility and word-of-mouth in the process.
The Real Magic Pill
So if you want a magic pill to use the “power of the press” to increase sales, start by looking at your business plan and calendar:
· Schedule time to work on your publicity efforts;
· Research media venues and pertinent reporters;
· Create unique and newsworthy story ideas;
· Practice your interview skills; and
· Contact media members directly.
Whether you work with a publicist, or do it yourself, only you can convey your personal business story with passion and enthusiasm. It takes extra effort to use publicity to your advantage. But it will get easier over time.
And with your media successes, you’ll save a lot of money while generating third-party credibility you simply cannot purchase via advertising alone.
