I run a group of women entrepreneurs who meet biweekly to discuss business issues and questions, and I want to develop an online forum for us to announce business events, keep contact information for all the members, and allow discussion for questions in between meetings.  It has to be a free service because this is a free group without any dues.

I used Google groups to do this initially, but people are having trouble accessing it even after they get a Google username and password, plus it doesn`t have a good way to manage a discussion.  Would yahoo groups work for this?  Are there other services that do calendar, discussion and posting member contact information?

Hi.  I recommend Ning.  While I use Yahoo groups for some things (including coordinating an EO Boston group). I also like Ning.

It looks like Ning has a better forum for discussions, but Yahoo Groups has a calendar.  Do you know if there is a "sample" Yahoo group that I can look at without joining the groups` membership so that I can actually see all the functionality?

Laura,
I switched my group from the Google Group, to another one because of the problems with Google.  Try: www.LinkingCommunities.com  It has a calendar, discussion forum, you can upload and share files, plus many other features.
