Training for how to become a freight broker is essential because an established company has already gone through the entrepreneurial headaches and found the bumps in the road that they can help you avoid. My company, TRG, has a proven business model, and especially for someone inexperienced in the industry, or someone looking for a career change, being able to list  yourself as a certified trained broker with Transportation Resource Group LLC, will make your resume more marketable, as well as being able to lean on a year of consultative support after your training...try to find another company out there that will provide you with the support that Transportation Resource Group does. www.transportation-resource-group.net for more info.

Some more food for thought: Larger companies should offer training to their brokers, yes. The downfall for working for a huge conglomerate is that they will provide you with a smaller commission split until you get years of experience, and will enlist a corporate policy of minimum percentage requirements per load, or minimum monthly volume requirements. If you don't meet these numbers, they'll toss you after 60-90 days.

Finding an independent firm will allow you the flexibility to design your own workflow/income. How much time you want to invest is entirely in ratio to how much money you want to make. Getting established with smaller firms who are willing to work with your schedule allows employees who have familial & personal obligations, other part time jobs etc. to live your life while running your own business.

Agent training is absolutely worth the investment if you find the right company to provide the education.

Klein Resources Group Inc. is a small family owned freight brokerage company which not only offers training to all of its freight agents, but does so at no cost to them. There are also a number of automated/online tools which we make available to our agents at no cost to them. We also do not require a minimum amount of experience or a minimum amount of sales in order to be part of our team. Feel free to visit our website at www.kleinresourcesgroup.com to learn more, or call our office and ask for Donovan for an initial interview.

I had several family and friends struggle with trying to get into this industry. One thing i've learned was you need someone to sponsor you.

The next thing, well not next but you must have your license and bond, now that its $75,000 you must have this before any shipper will even consider sending you their loads..

And getting a shipper is the million dollar question, get your required documents, call them, go visit them, make your presentations "OUTSTANDING" then hopfully someone will bite what your offering..

Then once you have at least one truck to run your loads, which is better than "NO LOADS" at all...I can help you with factoring, so that will be one headache off your list.

My family finally got it going, if you can work under someone's MC# like your family who owns their truck or partner with a trucker. But if you can not afford the $300 bucks for the license or your bond, the school is not your biggest concern.
