Hi!

I am having so much trouble pulling traffic to my site.  I read Titus's article, but how do you do this if you don't have huge money.  I am  already paying $300/month to Google and barely getting any traffic.

Help!

Hi Titus

great idea! I am a jewelry artisan and having a drawing maybe once a month??? for . . . a oh say, necklace earring set, sounds like a great idea. I haven't done too bad with hits and I do see I am having an impact on one particular item that may turn out to be my bread and butter so to speak ;-)

went to your website also at: www.swordsonline.com great job! I may be coming back and purchasing something hehe

Much Success to You

If you are paying $300 a month and getting no traffic, it is time to reevaluate what you are doing.

You can get traffic to your website in several different ways.
1.  Through organic (free) search engine results meaning someone types in a search and your website appears in the list of results.  To make that happen you have to 'optimize' your website so that the search engines like Google think your website is important.  I'd Search the web for 'SEO' or 'Search Engine Optimization' to learn more.

2.  Paid traffic.  That can be AdWords like you're using to have sponsored links.  I would bet that if you're paying $300 to Google and not getting traffic you're probably paying way too much for each click and likely using poor keywords.  You might consider finding someone to help you manage your AdWords account to get better results.  Companies will do this for a percentage of your budget.  Search for 'PPC Management' of 'Adwords Management' to learn more.

An alternative to the sponsored links you're paying for would be to place ads on website that would drive traffic to your site.  For instance if you sell golf equipment and ad on a golf related website might work.

3.  Viral or Social traffic.  Every place you can get your website address is another place that may drive traffic to your website.  StartupNation is a great example.  Notice how almost everyone who posts here has at least one website address in his/her signature.  That's because we hope forum readers will click to check out our sites and create traffic.  (I'm no exception).  I noticed you didn't include your website address in your message so you already missed a chance for several new people to visit your website.  There are tons of ways to get your link out there including website directories, blogs and forums.

All this said, generating traffic is the goal of every website owner but it takes dedication and time (or lots of money).  Unfortunately there is no magic bullet (even though lots of people will sell you one.).  Hopefully this gives you some things to think about.

There are a few other methods that can be used, such as social media marketing through social bookmarking, social networking sites (such as this or myspace), article submissions, and that's just the start.

I do have to agree with nhgnikole though, if you're spending $300 a month and not getting any traffic from it, then you should probably tweak your keywords and ad language.

If there's any assistance I can provide to help, please let me know.
