Hey I've decided to try Vonage and was wondering if anyone has had positive or negative experiences with them?

Letutor, Yes I do... I have the small business package. It comes with FAX and Direct Number and I added an 1-800 number for 4.00 extra a month. Plus if you get the soft phone package, all you need a head set and your computer and basically call from anywhere. I use that all the time. Cuts your Cellular Phone Bill down... Its only 9.99 a month extra... But remember it's unlimted calls anywhere in the USA and PR so its a good thing to have. NOW, the only down fall is, if you are planning on growing your business and need extension, they don't offer that. Packet 8 does... So make sure you know what your needs are...Edgar Monroy

My father has used vonage for about a year and has been pleased. I have been using Packet 8 VOIP for the past 6 months. Both services have occasional interruptions, but are quickly fixed. Packet 8 (probably Vonage as well) allows you to automatically forward calls to another number when the system goes down.
In my experience the immense savings have far outweighed the occasional inconvenience. Even if the system fails, don't we all have cell phones? Brett Lieske

Hi! I use Vonage for my business line and fax line. At first I had some trouble with it but in the past few months it's been fine. I'm thinking maybe they upgraded somehow. It probably depends on your area.
I just got an email from them saying that if I refer a person I get 2 months free and the person gets a free month - so if you do end up signing up and you'd like a free month, I just need your email address. It helps both of us. If not, that's totally cool.
Good luck! Chris

I've had it at home for about 3 months.
Cost savings = way cool
Quality = average
Refer a friend promotion = totally didn't work

Bummer! How can they advertise that and not follow through? Chris

my major issue is sound quality. i always sound fainter than the person calling across a conventional line and how in the world am i supposed to dominate a conversation that way?! but more seriously, when i do phone-radio interviews from home here and there, my sound quality ain't great. ask chris (entrepreneurd) how important THAT is.
also, when your internet service goes down, and thus your phone service goes down, you're doomed unless your cell phone works inside your house (which, in my film noir life, mine doesn't).
the rate is awesome, though, and the billing crystal clear. i tried the refer-a-friend stunt, too, and didn't get any results. Rich Sloan

Yes Rich, the reason why I went into the studio this morning for my interview was because I knew I could count on Vonage as much as I could my cell. But you get what you pay for I suppose. (Plus I wanted the studio experience. It was FUN!)Chris
