Don't overlook the low-tech team-building solution. A weekly conference call can do wonders to keep everyone on the same page and maintain some semblance of offline accountability to goals and schedules.

I completely agree. Who ever is doing things in your name, you need to make sure reflect you in a way that is honorable and full of integrity. The anonymous call is also great, because it shows how your callers are treated.

Joshua,
Also keeping a Project Managment system keeps everyone on task..I agree with the weekly calls. Whenever we get lax about it things get miscommunicated.

Do you use any special project management software/service for that? Or just plain old Microsoft Excel worksheets?Get Free Proven Computer Consulting Tips now at

To add a little high-tech angle to the great low-tech point you made about a weekly conference call, Instant Conference provides free on-demand conference call services. You get your own number and code to use any time you want. It's easy to use, and I have been very impressed with the quality. You can even use it to record your calls.
AppShore also is a very good, and yet very economical, web-based CRM and contact management application.

I'm a big fan of BaseCampHQ for this task- check out basecamphq.com. The "base" version is free- and it even sends out task reminders via email automatically.

Thanks Fast Garage! Looks very interesting and it's certainly not the first time I've heard that particular project management app mentioned.
Which level of their package do you use?

BaseCampHQ is a very good web-based project management application. It is user-friendly and is an especially smart choice for anyone who has never used project management software before. It is easy to start, easy to use, and thus, easy to continue with. Also, since it is a hosted application, you can access it from anywhere with an internet connection if you are out of the office.
