Wow, you forgot about optimizing your press release for search! An effective press release nowadays needs to be keyword optimized before distribution through a wire service. This way, when Internet users search for your keywords, your press release will have a good chance of showing up on the first page of the search results. Go to www.newsforce.com for a nifty tool that helps you do this for just $20 per release.

Thanks for your note and bringing up this point. Search engine optimization is important, but an entrepreneur writing a press release for the first time will want to focus on the content first. Then, as you mentioned, there are many services available that offer SEO once the press release is written.
SEO writing is a valuable tool to bring customers to your website, and it can be easily outsourced. But for big media stories, content is key. If you're writing a press release, try to keep both of these concepts in mind. Thanks again for your great input VJB!

I agree.  RSS has become a very powerful tool for my clients to get infront of people specifically searching for companies like them on the web. And it's FREE!  Really a great resource for small business, but the story will quality of the story will always determine success at the end of the day.
