Is there any software you would recommend to write a business plan?

Try JIAN.  The software is incredible, the support is awesome.  It is in fact the best biz plan software I've ever seen/used.

If you're simply writing a business plan for yourself (meaning, you're not seeking seed funding or angel investors), I recommend saving the money you would invest in a business plan program and simply use Word and Excel.

Hundreds of real and sample business plans are available online for your reference.

Good luck.

Much free info can be obtained, including writing a business plan, from the Small Business Association (SBA) www.sba.gov

I tried using Business Plan Pro 2007 - bought it, tried it - but ultimately I felt it was too rigid for what I wanted and I just went with Microsoft Word (which wasn't any easier but which I felt was more flexible).

I write about a dozen business plans a month and would recommend you skip the software and just go with MS Word and Excel.  You can better capture the unique nature of your business without using the predefined software templates.

You can find a great outline and guidance at:

I love when people give great advice like this. When you're starting up free is a good thing.
