My personal experience - as a "serial entrepreneur" is that people are indeed your most important asset.  At a start-up phase in particular, it is absolutely critical that the right person be on the team.  At this critical time, mistakes will cost you dearly.  A hiring mistake in the start-up phase could cost you your business or at the very least - could cost you valuable time as you deal with wrong fit, low employee morale, etc.

While I agree with the merits of this article, I do not believe the article goes far enough.  Too many entrepreneurs have little to no experience in hiring effectively.  Therefore, my strong advice is to hire using the help of personality profile instruments.  I have experienced the tremendous power of personality profiling on a personal level as well as with my clients.  The right personality profile tools can make all the difference between a good and bad hire.

Any "personality profile instruments" you would recommend?
If you prefer one over another, why?

Chris, you are sooo right! Hiring can be such a daunting thing, especially for an entrepreneur who knows his/her product or service but isn't a Human Resources Specialist. For a small or home-based business, the owner often ends wearing all the hats because they don't know where to go for help or think it will cost them too much. As you know, talent is an investment, not a cost. At Team Double-Click we are the Human Resources Department for companies who need efficient and flexible Virtual Staffing Solutions. We navigate the hiring maze for business owners so they can focus on what they love about their business!
