This is a great article but I think entrepreneurs need to realize that a viable, cost effective solution lies in Virtual Support Teams. The right company can not only provide you with the team and the resources that you need (as you need them), but also coach you on how to set up your team so that you get off on the right foot and start benefitting from an immediate ROI.
Most entrepreneurs fall into the trap of buying into a lot of how to books, audio tapes, tele-classes and expensive coaching sessions that only leaves them to implement everything on their own anyway.
The better way to do it is with a hands-on approach that combines coaching, team building, and real assignments. You shouldn't have to pay to build a team. You should rely on the company outsourcing the team to do that for you.

I think it's key to remember that a lot of entrepreneurs starting off can't immediately outsource everything due to the expense of doing so. Marketing, PR, web development and design all cost money. What's key for an entrepreneur starting off is to recognize their own strengths first and to make sure that they are truly pursuing their passions. If a merchant sells what they love, they should know the proper arenas for getting word of mouth out there.

Sometimes you think that it would cost you an arm and a leg to outsource stuff, that's not necessary true- shop around and you would be surprised at what you can find, quality and reasonably priced services.
I'm a virtual assistant and I outsource work to other virtual assistants as I feel its more cost-effective in time and money for me to let someone else take care of some of the tasks that support my business rather than me trying to wear every hat. Agnes Ikotun- MCP, REPA

I agree that many entrepreneurs think it will be expensive to outsource but...the time that they free up by outsourcing tasks that they don't like and are time eaters can be used to generate more income.
The first thing a small business owner needs to do is honestly evaluate what their time is worth. From their they can start to see how outsourcing to a VA can help them increase their profits.
Example: Joe Smith finds that his time is worth $120/hour. It takes him 3 hours to review and make revisions to his marketing materials and the headache of not enjoying this task. That's $360.00. He can outsource that to his VA for $45/hr and it may only take her 2 hours because it is something that she does regularly and is more effecient at it. That save Joe $270.00 in the long run and 3 hours that he can put into generating more income.

I agree.
I work with mostly small business, entrepreneurs and startups that might not have a lot of cash to spend up front, but what we generate for them helps to build a long term relationship with that client, knowing that they will stick with us and we'll grow as they grow. Now, it can take longer to see the results you want with a small budget, but all it takes is one, in my case, national magazine story to catapult a client to the next level.
Do some research. Call a variety of agencies and look for someone who is on their own and can afford to offer lower rates to your business. Most importantly, be sure that their focus is on your success.

Jennifer
