I have worked with a success coach and it has done wonders for my entire life, not just my business. But I did get to the point (month and a half) where I felt I did not need her anymore.

I now have a mentor who has "made it" in many businesses, she is invaluable. I feel things happen quicker and with less mistakes because of her feedback.

Interesting that this topic just came up.... I just won a "Coach" for 5 sessions at an online xmas show. I will follow up with an answer once I've completed my sessions - My Coach is from Germany....lol (literally!)

Depends on the credentials of the coach. If Michael Dell or Steve Jobs sure why not, if John Doe maybe not. Like Jennifer said, if he/she is someone is successful enough to be my coach, it is likely that I can't afford him/her.

However, if this coach wants to coach for free, then yes of course I'll listen. Then it is then up to me to assign value to his/her advice.  Cleanliness the Mark of Elegance                       www.DelColl.com

Since internet you can find practically... anything.

Same like you ElidS, I started my little SOLO Company 2 years ago, and I still cannot afford a coach.

But, researching on internet I found this site, and I get a FREE (yes FREE) Volunteer to Coach me on my Small Business (at least locally here in Miami, Florida, I don't know about the rest of the Country, they seems to be everywhere).

They are expierenced businessmen that volunteerly helps you. They are helping me a lot! My dream is become one of them in few years and return the help I received from many sources.

Here is their little introduction from their first page, and their link:

"SCORE's 10,500 volunteers give free, confidential advice to help hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs each year...."

Good luck !

I've worked with at least 3 coaches over the last few years.  I found you can have a coach for just about any issue you are dealing with personally or professionally.  I worked with a life/business coach when I was transitioning from my law practice to my legal referral business, then a year later I worked with a marketing coach for generating more business once I had established the new business, and a year after that worked with a marketing/writer coach to take my business marketing to the next level and generate additional business.  I always develop a relationship with them first as business professionals I respect, and I have the opportunity to observe them through networking groups, committees we serve on together, etc., and then when the time is right for me to utlilize their expertise for me personally, I gladly hire them and have always received excellent service at a reasonable price.  It seems the old adage is true:  "when the student is ready, the teacher appears."  I've had nothing but positive experiences, but I think that is because I had clearly defined in advance what I was looking for from each of them, made sure they had the qualifications for doing what I needed, I built a relationship with them so I knew we were both operating from integrity, and made sure their fees and my budget were in alignment.    If you ever need any referrals for coaches, I'd be happy to talk with you.  You can contact me on my website contact page:  www.bestlegalresource.com

Then yes. Not for the free lesson, but because I would have an opportunity to evaluate his/her services. If he/she comes up with ways to resolve the issue that I did not think off and his knowledge/experience/thought process makes the service worthwhile, absolutely! By the same token if he/she is not able to solve the issue any better, we can then part company and the experience did not cost me a bundle.

I went to SCORE when I was about a year into my business for advice and direction.

They basically told me the internet was a fad and working from home would never be more than a hobby.

Though I did not strangle anyone, I was sorely tempted.
