thanks for the comment!

merchant accounts are covered in step 3 of that step-by-step process.

i agree, it's a critical part of running an ecommerce site. we're actually planning to upload a series of articles specifically focused on merchant account solutions in the next month.

I thought this was a forum where people lend their expertise to each other in order to facilitate intelligent business decisions.  Who needs our help more than startups?  Considering all the bad advice and blatant fraud that is broadcast over the internet , I'm grateful to have a community like StartUpNation. Hey another cool thing I found when starting a new site is using a promo code to get your domain. You listed Godaddy.com as a great source. If you use the Go Daddy promo code ZINE3 at checkout, you can get any .com domain for just $6.95. I've used this code for a long time and it always works. Keep up the good work Rich and Jeff! -MG

To all those who complain and say there is only self-promotion going on.  I have been in the computer industry since the beginning.  Sharing knowledge should never be viewed as only self-promotion.  The person who wrote steps to creating a successful website, and other articles here provided various links, explained things well, and organized the information well.  I think they should feel proud of that opportunity, and you should be thankful of their sharing.  Finally everyday people, other than big shots who politically got up the ladder in big corporations, can have some recognition for their skills one on one with everyone, such as in a forum like this.

It is so sad that since the Internet connection is now lower priced to a point of mass users on it, that people now assume the information offered is of some type of lower value.  It still takes lots of hard work, self-discipline, and time to learn what to do on computers, how to program, what is going on today in marketing and everywhere else in technology in order to reach the right people, and then more work to learn how to present your information in a nice easy to understand layout.  If I did not have my background I would be totally lost, and I need some organization like what is presented here too.  It helps me focus on steps and not be overwhelmed, even though I have a long technical history.
I am personally very thankful to all who share, and I would rather they share what they know, than something they know nothing about.  Self-promote your knowledge you know well, be proud of what you learned, and then give substantial content that is very helpful to other's.  That is what being American is about on the Internet.  If you own your own company, and you have an account here, shame on your for not sharing any details to help other's, while at the same time you criticize anyone who takes the time to share so much to help many.

If you don't want to fine, but don't turn around and be negative to those who do share.  If you are worried about privacy, then hey create a generic format for people to follow and keep your privacy.  There are so many informational things you can share that is unique to your situation and could help someone else here.  That is why people are here.  To learn from successful people.  So what did you offer that is helping other people here?  You should focus on what you can offer, and how to present it by learning what other's do, such as in the articles here.  It takes time and work to learn it too.  It is an everyday part of business if you are on the Internet at all.

I would recommend to anyone interested in saving money to create their own site. But not all hosting companies with web building programs are created equal. I have had experience in the past with 1&1 and GoDaddy and I'm now hosting with CityMax. CityMax by far has the easiest site builder and the most templates (1&1's were so crude they looked truly unprofessional and hard to create) and a very easy step-by-step process. I still use GoDaddy for email hosting, as CityMax's is really for web hosting, and their email is not nearly as good as the previously mentioned companies. All changes you make using CityMax are updated immediately and this is not true for some competitors.

I am with WaveMan on this. Check out www.hiperwebsolutions.com for some of the cheapest prices out there. It is a GoDaddy reseller, but they sell their products at the lowest retail rates allowed.
