Here's my thing for these kinds of events ...
psych yourself up.
I spend my night before talking myself into being the best thing since sliced bread.
When I walk in with confidence, it shows!
For some small businesses ... having a booth or table is not always the best idea. You can walk around and meet 20x more people if you are not stuck behind a table. If you have an actual product that would be good for a booth, go ahead and get the booth ... but have someone who can also network on the floor.
And expect to put in a very full day! I always made my best contacts at the 'show' after the show. Go to the afterparties and such, especially if it's a geek fest.

My business...www.smashhitdisplays.com, has been creating trade show displays for years. We've seen a lot from many different clients - and I must agree, that in large part, success at trade shows depends on how "psyched" an individual is for the trade show. It's easy to become complacent - but you never know when your next big customer is going to walk up. Not missing any leads requires constant diligence, which is only achieveable through being really excited/motivated.
