I find Vonage to expensive and their quality not the best . Me personally chosed my VOIP provider for the cheapest solution for calls to Europe and i signed up orginally with Voipnet which was bought last year by Broadvoxdirect...The quality is still great , i had a few invoicing issues which are all solved by now ..
I just don't get why everyone is going for Vonage whereby are so much better and cheaper providers are out thee ..I guess they have the most advertise Silvia

"The Vonage home package runs $29.95 a month for unlimited everything (including calls to Western Europe), but no dedicated fax line included."
Only to certain destination but not all of Europe and as for the fax -get a fax plan from Myfax.com for $10.00/month which includes a toll free number and offers a great service Silvia

I used Vonage running over Optimum online for two years in
NJ. Year one, service was fine and the quality was OK. Year two, quality,
availabily and service totally tanked. I was not able to complete any phone
call that lasted over two minutes and most of the time the lines were down even
though Internet and Cable worked great. Me and my family were so disappointed
that we went back to land lines with Verizon. I still have several Verizon
lines and the quality and reliability are flawless. However I don’t think that
it is possible to pay more money for any phone service than I pay for Verizon.
Their invoice charges are always way more than the advertised price.
Six months ago I switch one of my Verizon lines to Optimun
VOIP and have been very happy. My experience with all of Cablevisions products,
and support has been very positive. For me, their products work as advertised,
they have been very reliable and when needed (infrequently) their tech support
is responsive and accurately fixed my problems the first time every time.

I've been using ViaTalk now for about three months and have been really happy. I agree with the earlier post that it is all about bandwidth, baby. If you're floating anywhere below an upload speed 128K, I wouldn't even bother. Regardless of the provider you choose it won't be worth it.
In terms of quality, yes, you will have an occasional echo or "tinny" sound when traffic is busy, but like cell phones, people have just gotten used to it. Of course, I don't try and use it while uploading a 16 page booklet to the print vendor, either.
Research it all you can... call the possible provider from your land line and see how they sound. If their customer service line sucks, it is a good bet their service will tank, too.
Just my two cents, mileage may vary...

I've been with Vonage for about a year. We love it, unless the power or the cable internet goes out. No power = no phone, but that's what my cell is for. I run a very small business and most of my work is done online.
The dedicated fax line with Vonage is only an additional $10/mo; which when combined with their unlimited service is still a HUGE savings over what we paid with the traditional telephone service provider. I doubt I'll ever go back to traditional.
The other issue with VoiP is 911 recognition, which is easily resolved by entering your 911 address information onto your Vonage account page, so in the case that you do have to dial emergency, your address will be routed.
I have only ever had one issue with quality, but that was after a huge thunderstorm we had. After resetting the modem, all was fine.

I use Jajah for my VoIP calls. It's more expensive than conventional VoIP, but the quality it's the same as a normal phone call and I have the comfort of using the same phone that I use for the others calls.
How Jajah works:
JAJAH is really simple
HOW DOES IT WORK?
1. Type in your phone number
2. Type in your friends phone number
3. Click "CALL"
Your phone will ring -
pick up -
start talking!
