Billing errors are not all too common as well...so know the lingo...and know your rights as well. There have been countless articles in the past few years about MAJOR billing errors that luckily were caught by the very aware patient. Be wise to not only the terminology, but what exactly you are paying for. Check out these news articles:

Killer Billing Errors

Itemized Hospital Bills offer an ounce of prevention

In the line of work I am in...and the people I deal with...not to mention my own personal experience...I know the value of reading those Explanations of Benefits (EOB) that arrive in the mail after a visit or procedure. We can all save ourselves from a lot of sticker shock by questioning what doesn't look right!

If you are confused by your EOB, your insurance provider should be able to walk you through it, if not, the hospital should be able to provide you with an itemized bill showing what they billed your insurance provider. $25 for a Tylenol is unexceptable...and it is billing issues like this that creates issues in our medical expenditures and increases the cost of medical care.
