Very trenchant article.
We are quickly approaching a time when honesty, reputation
and trust are no longer an option for businesses. Consumer power is quickly
growing via the Internet. By simply Googling “Business Name”
+complaint/problem/suit, consumers are beginning to access information in
seconds that simply wasn’t available just a few short years ago.
Over the next 10 years the concept of “Cavet Emptor" could become a footnote in
history along side of the many businesses who used it as a customer engagement
strategy.

You are correct. I have found dishonest people at all levels of business. That is actually what drove me to start my own company because I was tired of management teams not being honest with employees. If someone has no integrity then they are not worth anything.

Business ethics are critical. I think we all agree and we'd much rather work with someone we trust tha someone who is unethical. One thing that is bothersome to me is how do I know and as a business owner and partner, how do I protect my company from those that are not so ethical. We had a situation where former employees left our company, started their own directly competing business and are actively trying to steal away our customers. While I believe those who are worth keeping will stay with us, how do I let others know about this unethical behavior from our former employees in an ethical way?

I agree 100% with your statement regarding Consumer Power and the age of "Google". With so many review sites and networking forums such as this, it is so much easier to check the background of a company/person before doing business with them. As consumers, we can go beyond checking with the Better Business Bureau. Personally, I think this power can elevate the ethical businesses out there, and affect unethical businesses in a crippling way... i.e. the pocket book!
How many of you have checked a review site before eating at a restaurant or visiting a hair salon?
