First of all, Joel is the COOLEST person to talk to!!! What a treat!!!!!! If he ever contacts you for the podcast, ask him to call you 20 minutes earlier so you can have a fun chat with him! Trust meon that!!
I think I was pretty 'normal' when we were chatting prior to the interview ... once the interview started it's a total different story .. RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU HAD NO CLUE WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT! Right!
One thing I found ... I know I can be a dork sometimes but I never realize my voice is THAT DORKY!!! OMG!! One suggestion, Joel ... how about a voice make-over .. is that possible?
the interview was short ... a few things on my list weren't mentioned ... kind of like winning the Oscar and the microphone gets lower and lower ... so if I may, I would also like to add that I appreciate everyone who shared their story at "Why & How You started your Dream Business" - lots of inspiring stories.
So Joel mentioned about my bold plan for the grand opening date (which I could not stop laughing as I listened to the podcast). Then I thought it might be a 'cool' and 'sensational' idea if Joel get us back on podcast a year later to see where they are or what they're doing ... "Remember Meitzi? A year ago she was working on opening a kids-friendly restaurant. Today I (as Joel) am interviewing her live from her very own hot dog stand outside of San Francisco International Airport. So, Meitzi, tell us whatever happened to the restaurant idea?"
KIDDING!!!
(However, if the grand opening is on schedule, this might just define the true meaning of the word MIRACLE, Milagro, !!!)

Aww...don't
worry about being dorky-sounding! EVERYone sounds totally different to
themselves when they hear a recording. It's just that in your head, you
also hear all the resonation around your sinuses, and the
bone-conduction. When you hear the recording, ALL that's missing.
The thing is, though, that although YOU may sound to yourself like an
alien having just sucked in a helium balloon, NOBODY else listening to
you is going to notice the slightest difference. They all hear you the
way you sound on the recording, they're used to it, and it isn't at all
remarkable or odd or.....dorky. :-D Fuggeddaboudditt!
(On the other hand, if you're actually a man, trying to enter the
operatic singing field as a baritone you may want to work with a voice
therapist! LOL!) :-D Listening, as a musician, you sound like an
"alto," not at all dorky, nor squeaky. You have a solid voice, and it
carries a "tone" of maturity, solidity, professionalism, and confidence.
YOU may not hear it that way, but having worked with many female
singers, in and out of recording studios, believe me...."dorky"
wouldn't be a word I'd associate with your voice.
I like the idea of an anniversary follow-up. How cool would that be!? 1 year later---what happened? Very interesting.

Meitzi,
Just heard your podcast and you were great. I can relate to
being nervous but you were fine. I don't think that you had a dorky
voice. It was really nice. Even though we haven't talked on the phone
we have heard each other's voice. That is cool.
My only gripe is that you didn't mention the name of your restaurant. It's such a cool name. Congrats!!

CraigL - thank you so much for the words of encouragment!! I have enjoyed reading all messages you posted on SuN and seeing you as a 'sansei'. Not only are you a great philosopher, you also have provided us many great words of wisdom.
Kathy- so cool now we know what we both sounded like!!

Thanks for the compliment, Meitzi :-)
There's always a reason for anything, if you choose to believe that
existence is organized. It's that the reason doesn't at all have to be
comprehensible to human minds. We can sure make an attempt, though, and
because we're dealing with the human part of existence, we often can
work out the reason.
Consider that your own impression of your own voice was that it sounded
"dorky." If you walk away from a true/false assessment of your
response, you're left with something very interesting. WHY did you
choose the word "dorky" as a description of your interpretation of your
own voice?
That gets into psychology (a sub-set of philosophy), and begs the
question of your own belief system. When you assign an adjective to
something, you do so out of your entire personality, your experience,
your life history, and your belief systems. And so, if your first
reaction to how you sound is unsatisfactory, it's because at a deep
level, you don't really believe you're fully prepared to go out an meet
the world as an equal. :-)
You are!
So now your next step is to sit back and contemplate why you hold a
derogatory image of yourself, when nobody else in the objective
business world agrees? Then, if you can find out "why," the next step
is to change it.
There's an old joke that goes like this, about an older Jewish immigrant speaking with the neighborhood doctor:
"Doctah...doctah....it hoits 'ven I do diss!"
"Den don't do dat!"
:-)
