A friend of mine recently suggested looking at doing fundraisers as one manner of spreading the word about my new business. Of course, both of us are totally cluseless as to how that works so if any of you know please share your thoughts. Also, does doing fundraisers mean any sales at all or is it just a matter of goodwill and increasing awareness of your services and products? Please advise, Thanks!

Fundraisers can definitely help you spread the word as to your company with respect to social networking and marketing. However, unless thought through, I have found them to be business development loss leaders.

Mike, let us know how it goes. Interested in knowing if it boosted your traffic and sales. Also, hope it brings in some good funds for the PTA
Another way to get involved in fundraisers, as we have in the past, is to let them sell your product. They pay wholesale, and the profit is theirs.

We do our fundraisers a couple of different ways.
1. Order forms. We supply the forms and money envelopes and for a set period of time the group sells product. They earn 50% of their sales. We set a delivery date and provide product after sales are closed.
2. Direct Product Sales. We supply the group with product and they sell at specific functions. We invoice all the product sold and then make adjustments on the backend depending on what is actually sold and what portion is theirs to keep.
We just did one for an elementary school in the Detroit area that wanted to setup and run a display for the week of parent teacher conferences. Since they had the majority of staff and parents coming thru the building, it was easier for them to do cash and carry and just have someone man the table during the week!
