How to handle HR in a small, growing business: Contact the chamber of commerce and the IRS? Why was this posted? What a remarkably, totally useless article, obviously not written by anyone who has had to do it.
A good article on the subject would talk about the actual way to do payroll, which is to have it handled by ADP or Paychex, which are remarkably cheap, and do a comparison of what service is best and pitfalls to avoid. For insurance for employees, talk about whether a broker should be used, how to do it inexpensively, something about finding a co-op or something. For other benefits, talk about how to actually set up a 401(k) and how much it costs. Fidelity charges like $750 per employee; is this a lot? Who's cheaper?

Great questions about our recent article on HR issues. I'm going to take some of your more specific questions/points and include them in my thinking as we create new articles in the future. It's always EXTREMELY helpful to hear from the community about what you'd like to see us writing about! So keep the feedback coming.
Also, we recently published an article on inexpensive ways to find health insurance, check it out http://www.startupnation.com/pages/articles/affordable-healt h-insurance.asp.
Thanks, Jessica Schlick

Payroll is one of those necessary evils that takes the business owner away from more productive, revenue generating activities. If you're a small business, you should think about outsourcing your payroll processing.
