CSS styling is very useful in controlling the display of your page i.e placement of content, links, etc. Both for the search engines and the site visitors. As far as search engines go, you control which part of your page they read first, second, third, etc. This allows you to basically control where your keyword get read both in your content and your link. As for the site visitors, CSS is used the control the look, the layout and formatting of your page elements.  And finally for both search engines and visitors, CSS coding is very efficient in controlling your page i.e less code is used.  Therefore pages load quickly for both visitors and search engines.

that's my 2 cents....

I very much agree with this article about local businesses not restoring enough to the internet (specifically search engines) to get their business known. It seems that the conception is, "Hey, my business is local, I do not want to sell my services/products to global market, and besides how would people find me in this vast market place".

I personally have helped more than 150 local businesses (ranging from restaurants to local financial services boutiques) to get lots of business from the internet.

Here are some tips (other than the obvious of getting a web site done) I would like to share with the readers:

* Optimize your web site specifically for the local market you are trying to reach.

For example:

If you sell sunglasses in the miami area, then optimize the site specifically to sunglasses in miami area.

Optimize such as:

- Making sure that TITLE tags have the keywords (don't over do it)
- Make sure that H1 tags highlight your keywords (but sometimes H1 tags are not very helpful)
- Name the pages correctly (maybe something like: miamisunglasses.html)

* Participate in as may local sites (including community sites) as possible to get more link rankings to your site.

In our experience, it's not just a matter of having your own website anymore, but offering additional web sites to give your customers a reason to visit you and to keep you in their minds, even when they are not purchasing from you.

At Ticket Alternative we offer advance tickets to events across the country.

So, in addition to our primary web site www.ticketalternative.com we also run a local music blog to promote the events we sell tickets to: www.atlantamusicblog.com. Not only does it announce ticketed events, but also other local music news and information about Atlanta bands and venues. That site alone gets 100,000 page views a month, which just helps increase traffic to www.ticketalternative.com

We also have a national version www.talive.com -- a blog on which we announce events, give away tickets, review CD's and post other content to draw people towards the Ticket Alternative brand.

Lastly, we also have Myspace pages www.myspace.com/ticketalternative and Twitter pages www.twitter.com/talive that acts as additional vehincles to promote the Ticket Alternative brand.

do not forget google local.  you can include business hours, services, location etc. it even provides a map of where you are to browsers.  you can have coupons and promotions that customers print and bring to your store.

now here is the best part, you will be added to the google index immediately.  so if someone searches for your business type in your locality, they will most likely find you on the first page of google.  so many people do not use this free service because they dont know about it or simply dont think it is worth it.

well it is free and it takes 10 minutes to set up.  this has been very helpful for my family's business

Local search is a big part of marketing a local business online...  both optimizing your site or pages for local keywords (i.e. plumber evanston il) and advertising via local ppc advertising using local keywords as well as in local sections of search engines such as Google maps.  The fact of the matter is that 25% of all internet searches are local in nature and according to some experts as many as 90% of all commercial internet searches results in a local bricks and mortar purchase.  How can you pass up on an opportunity like that?
