Thank you for this article, you are spot on with the action plan provided.

I myself, listen to Dave Ramsey afternoon during my commute, and you guy's speak the same language.

These are troublesome times for consumers who have lived beyond their means,or just were taken advantage of. It is never too late to turn your financial situation around though.

Thanks again,
Tim Henderson

Dave Ramsey and this guy don't speak the same language at all. Dave says to not worry about your stupid FICO score. He doesn't tell you to not pay your bills so that you can settle. He tells you only to settle when you are already behind on paying the bill. He says to a do a debt snowball. Meaning be current with all your bills and then pay a bunch of extra on your smallest bill and then once you get that knocked out use the money you were using to pay towards the smallest one towards the next one. Keep doing this and your snowball turns into an avalanche to get rid of all your debt. This gives hope and a feeling of accomplishment and shows you are getting somewhere and makes you want to get even more momentum to get out of debt. It really works but only if you drink the koolaid.

The debt snowball technique can work well if you stick with it.  I know because it did work for me. It is great to see those credit cards get paid off faster and faster.

However, all the "tricks" in the book are not going to help until you quit spending more than you earn.  Sometimes you have to force yourself into it.  I actually canceled all my credit cards. I know, not great for your FICO, but if forced me into spending no more than I earned! Now I am debt free and saving more than I ever thought possible.

Yes I would have to agree, people are definitely living beyond their means and spending like crazy. I think there should be a mandatory class for kids in school to teach them the importance of saving and how to manage their money.

I think soon, the dollar will be worthless. I mean there is already talk that the US is going to go into a Depression and that the dollar will be worthless. The Euro has more value.

But then again our government isn't much better; they're way in debt constantly borrowing from other countries, even China! Spending billions of dollars on war; just imagine if we didn't have troops in so many other countries. We'd be saving SO MUCH. But the US government is trying to take control of our every move...okay so a little off the topic now. But...

The US is money hungry and its going to take a lot to turn that around...almost every person you know is in debt in this country. Even I was in the same place but not neccassarily by choice. Life change; divorce. However when I was with my husband he definitely had a bad spending habit; spending more than he brought in. We were going in the negative every month. I brought this to his attention many times so that we wouldn't end up in the crap hole but he'd just reply with a, "we'll be fine" or "every person is in debt; its just the American way". Can you say wow!?

Now he's filed for bankruptcy, and lost his house....at 36 he's living back home with his mom.

Well anyway, I think its going to take a lot to turn things around. America is money hungry, greedy. It's going to take more than just saving extra bucks or only spending less.

Goodluck!
