Hi, this is Brenda Dronkers. The best advice I can give anyone is LISTEN to your kids. Some of the best ideas come from them!! I have recently sold off a majority share of my company, Pump it Up, that was inspired by my kids, and have started another company, not only inspired by my kids, but now they are my business partners. They are 18 and 20. They have always been MAJOR fashion and art lovers. They saw a need for a certain line of tshirts, so we have launched it, and it is already taking off like crazy. Having their young ideas and enthusiasm is incredible too! What a Blessing! To have a successful business and work with your family! Blessings! Brenda

I'm not quite sure I should entirely listen to mine ... she's only 2, so if it was up to her, we'd be playing hookey and going to the zoo every day.

Congrats on your new venture!

..too cute. :) My son Jake was 4 when I started Pump It Up. I discovered inflatables from a church festival I brought him to. 10 weeks later, Pump it Up was open! You would really be surprised where you get ideas. I know an extremely successful mom who invented something by watching her toddler drinking from a cup! Now she is very wealthy! Keep your eyes and ears open and your brain churning while enjoying your little one!

Ahhh. See, they already are right!! Better listen to them more often ;)
I am obviously just kidding. Thank you for the nice compliment from your children.

I think it is really cool that you are already sharing these things with your kids. They are indeed a sponge. We just all need to remember to squeeze them out every once in awhile, as they sometimes have a greater ability to grasp even the easiest, most obvious concepts that our business minds might otherwise look right over.

Take care.

Brenda,
When you first created Pump it Up (the inflatables) how did you make the product to sell?  Did you need to find a local manufacturer after you finalized your patent?  I'm not sure I quite understand the process of "Got a great idea!" to "Here's my product for purchase."

Thanks,
JR

JR,

I didn't create the inflatables themselves. The products, in a more simplified form, were already available for outdoor rentals. I created an indoor facility, then franchised the concept. The indoor inflatable industry did not exist prior to Pump It Up. I hope this answers your question. Have a nice evening.
