PR is a great way to promote your product, and on the web nowadays it's often overlooked. However, very important that press releases be optimized for search prior to sending them over the wire service. This way people searching on Google and other search engines will find your release when searching on the keywords you have optimized on. A great tool that makes optimization easy is Newsforce (www.newsforce.com). Also, Business Wire has the tool as well in their EON suite.

Ric, I totally agree with the whole PR concept and that press releases should be optimized for the search engines. What I don't agree with however is that you need software to do the job. It's relatively easy to integrate keywords into your copy. I do it all the time. For example, every article or press release I write is optimized for the search engines. I've never needed software to help me in that regard.

Also, if this product is so great, where are all of the customer testimonials touting its effectiveness? There's not a single testimonial on their website. No proof of performance? I consider that a big red flag.

I don't think PR is overlooked ... in fact, some people probably issue too many press releases (and too many low-quality press releases) so PR in general gets watered out.

As with anything, it's important to write with people in mind first, and then search engines.
