hi everyone.
i`m grappling with a couple of ideas for a new business. what do you think about a consignment clothing store? does anyone have experience in this area? thinking about combining good-quality, high-end used clothing with some new items. any thoughts?

Hello..

I find your  idea great, I don`t have experience on owning a store but  I sometimes like buying from that kind of places, back here in the my country we call it "UKAY-UKAY" We most prefer it when there are not much budget for new ones. You don`t get much complaints on the items since that customers can see the items first hand and know that it was a second hand..

Goodluck!!

tenley,
My aunts opened the first consignment  clothing store in Utah some 60 years ago. It was very successful. At the same time I have a young friend that just closed her store after one year. The main reason my aunts were so successful was they ran around with the country club crowd and was able to get a steady supply of high quality clothes.
With the economy going the way it is I think now would be a good time for you to get started. Do you have a source of high quality used clothing? I would like to hear how you do.
PS. Score or the SBA womens business centers some times have information in their libraries that will give you all the information on how to start a consignment store. I also think the Entrepreneur magazine has a book on that.
