I started off in 2000 by founding the Atlanta Outdoor Club (AOC) in the greater Atlanta, GA area for outdoor enthusiasts to come together, network, and have fun. Upon relocation to Maryland in 2001, I founded the Maryland Outdoor Club (MOC) in the central Maryland area, for the same reason as the AOC. Not too long into running the MOC did I learn that many of the women in the group were joining solely to meet other women to build friendships with and were not pleased with the men in the group hitting on them constantly. There came the idea to start a purely women`s group: Girls and the City. GATC has was kicked off in late 2005, and has been going strong ever since. Most of our members are in their 20`s and 30`s although we take any woman over the age of 18 with no upper age limit. Our events include: wine tastings, shopping excursions, movie nights, dinners, girls night out, and travel. The women are all forming lasting friendships and having fun at the same time. It`s been wonderful to be a part of it!
