- Home energy audits are like a doctor`s diagnosis of what`s going on in
your house. Drafts, cold or hot rooms, high heating and cooling bills,
furnace running all the time, these are some of the symptoms that your
house is leaking.
The tricky part is to find out where and "plug" up the leaks so that your
house is more energy efficient, less expensive to operate and more
comfortable.
Education is the best way we can inform people that they can do
something to lower their energy bills, to find what will motivate them to
spend the money on the audit is the hardest part.
Please help us to understand what will likely motivate people more so that
we can be more effective at getting our message out. My company performs Home Energy Audits in New England and I agree education is the key. So many homeowners incorrectly assume they cannot do anything about the amount of energy used in their home and have become resigned about the costs. They contact me in a desparate hope they just may be able to do something. The amazement the homeowner has when they actually see and feel where heat loss is occuring makes my job fun. I know I am doing my job correctly when a homeowner thanks me because they learned so much, just from the initial audit. They also are amazed when an appliance like a refrigerator is not working as well as they thought, when you show them just how much that refrigerator is costing them monthly on their electricity. Had they had this information they would have replaced that appliance long ago.
- It`s so wonderful to hear another auditor with success. We are getting
started here in Michigan and it`s been a hard sell. The few times I`ve been
able to help people, it is that great reward of seeing the bill go down.
I love to do the seminars, getting the attendance is the hard part.
