I invented reversible lined drapery in August 2002. This led me on a path of humility, an education in statistics, and the creation of commerce. My door to door sales eventually led to the requisite yes, and I began collecting checks instead of no`s. I am still in the start up phase at the micro business level. The first Drape Couture retail store will be opening in Boise late this summer. I plan to license the reversible lined drapery pattern to larger drapery manufactureres. In the meantime, I am expanding the drapery line to include bedding products and nursery decor. I will also be adding a wedding registry. My drapes and bedding products are made in silk. I use silk because it is lightweight, elegant, and organic.
We have added bling to our soft home decor products in the form of jewelry.
Vintage embellishments are use in our tie back collection, and vintage and modern findings are married to create the M line jewelry for the modern woman.
We believe luxury and style can be created with Green production processes. Drape Couture has a boutique hotel division which offers our "head bored" platform beds, and "hubaliers", made from vintage hub caps. Sexy Sales and and an Eco Brand to Go With It
I equate sexy with health. I find both men and women let fear overcome choice when it comes to choosing a healthy, sexy, body image. The fear of the physical discomfort and effort of sustained elevated heart rate, and the fear of "stepping" outside a comfort zone, of comfy sweatpants or dated jeans.
We have been ushered into a new age of consciousness. This consciousness dictates the elimination of superflous waste with a mandate to create "health" in ourselves and our businesses. If we are outdated in our outward appearance what does that say about are ability to innovate in this new age of health awareness for ourselves, and our planet.
Our outward appearance speaks volumes about ourselves at any age. Men and women entering their mid life 40`s- 50`s with fit bodies, and fashion forward dress will dominate the desires of the marketplace, because we exude
desirability. What is sexier than that? Sex sells because its smart. It represents the pinnacle of achievement, the dicipline of the mind over the body. A fit body in a presentation of current wardrobe (think the Obama`s)
is the shell to a soul, and mind that are aware, alert, thinking, innovating, solving and dreaming. The energy is present, the mind is functioning.
With the above equipment in place comes the opportunity to transform an existing business through expansiveness of thought. Choosing thought principles based in eco conscious methods will open doors previously not thought of. Thanks for listening.
Eco Conscious Jewelry and Product Designer
Don`t trip on Hurdles, jump high, land soft.
First, thank you to Rich, Jeff, Todd and S.U.N team for creating a venue of support and comraderie for the entreprenuers of America.
I was fortunate to be on the S.U.N. radio program with a question regarding an advisory board for my company. This was great practice to pitch, yet I learned more about listening to the valuable advice given. In other words there is a time to pitch and a time to listen.
I believe in the 10 steps to creating an entrepreneurial business outlined by S.U.N. the first and foremost step is a life plan. Everything else falls in descending order beneath this first step.
For me my first entrepreneurial hurdle was identifying the desire to maintain a standard of living, and specifically a piece of real estate, in the midst of reshaping my family with love, and without lawyers. This hurdle meant I needed to create income that would repeat itself without me being present. This type of income is a long term plan that would allow me to live my life plan.
The next hurdle was invention, from sketch, to learning to sew, to drafting a provisional patent, to doing the market research while bouncing checks, begging for small amounts of money to keep on going. This hurdle was a gift of faith, a walk of humility, and totally necessary to define the market potential for my product.
The next hurdle was selling door to door to the women I used to be in the country club with. With the requisite number of no`s under my belt I started getting yes`s and collecting checks.
I am in my third year, have opened my first retail location, and the hurdles keep on comin..it`s always about collecting the check, delivering product, taking care of those who take care of me..the circle of life and business, and happiness. A life plan with a business.
I believe in invention. I believe in knowing who I am, because it teaches where my strengths and weaknesses lie. I believe in enjoying every second of the journey, that work that creates commerce is fun. Find your fun and fly.

I believe business and life are a walk of faith, a letting go of FEAR as the driver behind the engine. Failure is always a success. I find the trick is adapting to the hairpin turn. This adaptation is survival. Survival is success.
In addition, I believe what appears to be rejection or failure is a statistic that can be measured. For me, I had to reach a statistical number of no`s prior to the yes, and then the collecting of a check.
I do not recognize FAILURE or FEAR. My vision stays true to the path, the road, the fall line.
