If you are running a legit business that is paying all of its taxes and has all of the proper licensing then you would be surprised about how much you can actually write off on your taxes. When I have tax questions the first thing I like to do is try to figure out the answer myself on the IRS website. A good place for you to start might be here:
IRS Business Deductions
When it's your first time setting up a business I also highly recommend you contact a knowledgeable accountant, attorney or business broker or all 3. In the beginning you really want to get this stuff right as well as know all of your exact rights.
You will want to distribute a lot more fliers and with more frequency if you plan on having a better response on this run. As example the same few local restaurants leave me a flier at least once a week if not more. Make sure your flier is catchy and it really helps if you offer an amazing coupon or some other type of catch to get them in the door. If you are thinking about a direct mail campaign just go into your local USPS and ask about the detail of there direct mail services. If you do choose them they will be able to provide you with all the addresses you need. There are other companies that do the same thing as well. Do you have a picture you can post of your last flier so we can give you some more feedback?
If you need some good design work done why not check out a few of the design freelance sites and put up a job or 2 and see what kind of bids you get. Maybe check out a design specific community like:
What exactly do you need? A billboard company like Clear Channel or just the actual advertisements conceptualized and made?
One thing that has not been mentioned is that cross-linking does not always have to involve websites / domains that you own. There is a new concept revolving around cross linking which they call link wheels. Link wheels are built by posting articles / content on high PR share sites and then connect everything together and then ultimately back to your own online presence. I strongly recommend learning more about link wheels if you are interested in cross linking as an SEO strategy.
Great post on teamwork and teamwork is one of the most important business concepts successful companies can develop. I think a major principle of teamwork that should be added to the list is TRUST. You have to trust that your team always has the greater good at heart. Once a team realizes members can not be trusted then the makeup and power of the team beings to erode. Its like the famous team building exercise where you fall backwards and trust the person behind you to catch you. This is one of the biggest parts of teamwork. Once you have faith / trust in your team almost anything is possible.
