I cannot sing, yet there are many multi-millionaires who sing for a living.
After reading everyone’s comments and your post David it reminds me of American Idol, some people just cannot see that they are not good at something and they truly do not realize it.
So, this person perhaps was learning and had not learned enough, or this person was going down the wrong path in their life and does not know how to change course, or this person simply can not recognize that internet marketing is something s/he is simply not good at and it makes her/him feel stupid, or this person simply is selling the wrong product/service and therefore cannot recognize that the internet marketing is working, or this person does not know how to receive and handle what comes from the internet marketing. Whatever the case, it sounds to me like this person needs better and stronger direction/guidance in their life.

I do want to take the time to let you know that other than #7 I do like everything else you have to say and find the information useful. I do agree that #1 should be inclusive of short daily goals and long-term. You do too you have already said so in some of your responses to various posts.
I have more than one favorite though I have a few those being:
You`d be surprised at how many businesses there are out there being run by principals who don`t have a clue about running a business. –
* They don`t advertise.
– as I said I have sold for 11 years 6 in advertisement and there is nothing more gratifying than hearing someone tell you if it was not for the advertisement they would not be in business at all. Or to hear them say how they made a huge Return On Investment for their investment in advertisement. Or how excited they were to receive tons of calls that really brings them back to life that their service or product is needed, demanded, wanted by others.
* They`re in it strictly for the money.
* They don`t learn from their mistakes.
* They don`t take advantage of trends.
* Poor presentation of product or service.
Thanks for taking the time to post the information David.

You mentioned in one of your posts, “I`ve actually been in sales and marketing for around 18 years. So I know exactly what I`m talking about.”
Yet #7 on your list is: “7. They don`t ask for the order. As unbelievable as it may sound. I`ve actually read ads where the company presented its case for buying their product, and never once asked for the sale.”
David, why is that unbelievable to you? Being an expert of 18 years in sales and marketing?
I have been in advertisement sales for 6 years and OF COURSE THERE ARE ADS THAT NEVER ASK FOR THE SALE. There are many ads that never will ask for the sale because advertisement is not necessarily about asking for the sale. Advertisement where a company “presents its case for buying their product” is a specialized type of advertisement and you should know what type of advertisement that is and why they present their case for their product and do not ask for the sale.
That’s my response to #7.

I have successfully sold websites for 5 years. To answer your questions kenmc90:
"is this really how sales work? this slow?"
The answer is YES that is how sales really works.
"I`v done a few local door-to-door tries. and a few phone book calls."
So have I. I bet no one bought from you.
Even as a young person with no background in sales who is beginning his website design business you should be able to have sold a couple of websites from those calls and door-to-door visits. I would know I would have been able to sell at least a couple for you in your current situation if you had your own website finished.
However, you are too high of a risk. You come across as lazy, irresponsible and unskilled when you do not have your own website fully designed and functioning. Why would anyone spend money investing in you as a person, which is exactly what you are asking them to do, when you do not even take care of your own business? The people who have the ability to pay will if they can trust you, and any responsible business adult will view you as not trustworthy because of this.
