I teach a course through the Small Business Development Center about the legal elements of starting a business.  I find that most of the students find the course helpful, and have discovered that many questions surround web-based businesses.  I`m considering producing an instructional DVD on the topic, and would very much like to gauge the group`s interest.  Thank you!

I think your concept has real possibilities. Here are some points you might want to consider:

    • Try out a simple, short presentation that covers the most frequently asked issues, for your first attempt. Consider that you might ultimately use this as a downloadable, free giveaway product to introduce your other services.
    • I think that customers are much more receptive to purchasing services or products when they can get a sample that indicates what they can expect. Personally, I never pursue purchasing services or products from sites who reveal nothing and charge for everything. I`m always skeptical that such companies or individuals think that they have exclusive knowledge and think that it`s more valuable than it really is.
    • You might want to think about developing a series of informational presentations (not necessarily DVDs) to cover various legal aspects of startups. I think that it might be beneficial to package them as relatively brief units with succint, bulleted points, and useable checklists, templates and such. Something someone could cover in about 20 minutes. That type of packaging would allow you to price your product at an affordable price, and it would allow your potential customers to select topics "a la carte". I think most entrepreneur people like to be able to pick and choose items for themselves. And they tend to want to get right to the heart of the matter without a lot of narrative presentation.

I like your idea. I`d be glad to give you personal input or feedback as you develop your product. I have some experience in the area of instructional information (both, from the development and presentation side, and from the consumer/student side), and I do have a knack for organizing information. Feel free to contact me by private message if you like.

The legal aspects can be some of the most confusing. I think a DVD like this would be useful.
