Figure out if you have sufficient contacts of distributors and customers who are the most important players in this business. The internet gives various sources of information as well as venues for selling products that you can explore.

It's a little tricky starting an import/export business. You need to know about shipment and B/L. The more tricky part is getting Letter of Credit and understanding Export documents.

If you`re interested in some good free (government sponsored) online help you might try visiting
We developed this site which offers free webinars that are good for people just getting started in trade. These things are very brief --- about 15 minutes each --- and cover some of the most basic topics, like "How do you know you`re ready?, How do you find overseas customers?, How do you get paid?
There`s also an excellent links page to all sorts of other free sites that you may find helpful.

You can start your import/export business at home with only a file system, business cards, and a telephone for answers the calls. When you exporting don’t forget to inform every person you hire the rules and regulations and when you importing don’t forget to study your products Harmonized Tariff Schedule or HTS number. It will very helpful for all whose want to start import or export business.

Hi, I`m new to this site so here goes, I`m interested in starting a small import/export business from home. I have done some online research into this business and it seems that most of all import and export businesses are done by home based buisnesses.  My question is, what online courses are reputable in learning how to go about starting this business? I have seen many . many people selling courses online on how to learn how to do this but how do I know who actually is selling a course who actually is in this business from someone who just reserached and wrote an ebook?  Second question. I am an American working in Australia in the mining industry and I have made a few nice friends from a few of the south pacific islands who have relatives in those islands that have pineapple groves,  banana groves , coconut groves, etc. Not one of them is exporting their product to anywhere seems to me there might be an opportunity here.  Getting them to sign an agreement with me to represent them in exporting their fruit doesnt seem to pose a problem but how do I go about finding buyers in other parts of the world who would want this product?   Anyones input concerning this would be a great help and will be greatly appreciated as I am lost.   Thank`s  Russ

I also love to have an export/import company. You should know all about L/C, B/L, C/O... That's very important.

Hi,I understood what you said in this post.

Now let me give the answer of both your first and second question:

Whatever you ask anyone or read any e-book, these are not the best way,the knowlege from others or books is not reputable, you should search the customers through google, then you'll find many companies who are interesting in your products, after that, you can try to discuss business details with them, such as the payment term, shipment date, delivery time,as well as the specifications of the products, etc. Then you can get more and more experience from them, and may establish business relationships with them.
