|Description:||I am a woman in the sense of my biological makeup. But being a woman is learning to accept my emotional mood swings, compassion for everyone around me and proactive nature. My role in society as a woman takes me on a journey into new horizons and challenges that if I was a man, I wouldn’t have to endure. Being a woman allows me to view the world as this unique place of uncharted territory that is waiting to be explored. My identity as a woman is more than my physical attributes; it’s an alliance, it’s a self-concept, and it’s an ascribed social construct.|
I am a spiritual entity. My spirituality defines who I am and what my place is within the world. My spirituality is the guiding force in my life. It influences my decisions, supervises my behaviors, monitors my communication and keeps me humble. It allows me to accept the people around me and the circumstances in which I find myself, rather than trying to adjust them to suit my desires.
I am a native of New York. My distinctiveness as a native New Yorker defines my character, my attitude, my persona, and the way I interact with people. It protects me from harm and infuses my need for risk taking. It also drives my creativity, initiative and proactive nature. It enables me to be assertive, yet tactful. It enables me to handle stress, multitask and interact with people of different backgrounds and cultures. Being a native New Yorker has prepared me for the unexpected trials and tribulations encountered on a daily basis.
These three traits combined make me the person that I am today. There have been some other variables that contributed, but being a woman, a spiritual entity and coming from New York heavily influenced my cultural identity.
