Broward County does not issue a licence for a handyman. They do not have that category.

I beleive the issue that Handdyman is talking about is not union related. 

Broward learned from the pains of Dade County after Hurricane Hugo.. then Andrew... There was a tremendous amount of unlicensed folks doing work that they had no business attempting.  There were also a fair amount of folks bilking a lot of "customers" out of a lot of money.  Also, there were a tremendous amount of folks working for people (or by themselves) who had NO workers comp coverage.  Unfortunately, there were quite a few people that were hurt and had no workers comp coverage to rely upon and the state had to pick up the tab. 

Unfortunately, there are a lot of honest folks like yourself that are getting locked out of making an honest living with the skills they have learned.  With that being said, I personally believe that the greater good (customers, employee`s, etc) is served by regulating the industry and requiring that GC`s do the work. General Contractors are responsible for thorough knowlegde of many facets construction and repair, construction accounting, business law, construction law, etc.

attach flag holder

attach garden hose holder

caulk shower stall/bathtub

clean dryer vent

change toilet seat

clean/repair downspout

door weather stripping

hang blinds/window treatments

hang deco shelves

hang flower baskets

hang pictures & mirrors

install curtain rods

lubricate door lock/deadbolt

repair door threshold

repair dripping faucet

repair drywall (small sections)

repair garage door weather strip

repair kitchen cupboard

repair mailbox

repair pocket door rollers

repair running toilet

repair screen door

repair screen door rollers

repair shower door handle

repair sliding door handles

repair sliding door rollers

repair window (jalousie/awning)

repair/install bi-fold doors

repair/replace garage rollers

repair/replace towel rails
