As I talked with people during the research phase of my business planning process I was struck by the lack of confidence people have in so many of the financial goals we associate with the American Dream. Across a variety of income levels the message was the same, “I am not sure how confident I am that I will be able to achieve my goals in the way I have always dreamt.” I must admit, I felt the same way when I considered my plans for retirement, a college fund for my son, and the rest of my financial goals. Is the dream of sailing the Caribbean someday just a fantasy or can I count on it happening? What about my aspirations of helping those in need? With so many goals and dreams competing for our attention and resources how can we hope to have any level of confidence in achieving the things that are most important to us?
