I have been trying to get more information on what people think about websites that include SitePal. The company claims that vistors to sites with SitePal tend to stay longer and they also have improvement in sales because site visitors can hear your message in addition to reading the copy. However I know I get annoyed sometimes when I visit sites that unexpectedly have music or audio attached to them and I usually don`t stay around long enough to read or hear the message.

Also, once the novelty wears off what happens then?

I would love to hear results of any SuN members who have included this function on their business site. I would also like to hear the benefits to NOT including them.

At first I thought it was a great idea. Then I was using the net in one of those situations where audio sounds from the computer is frowned upon. That`s when I realized... crap... how do I shut this thing off?

So, I no longer think SitePal is a good addition for the same reasons music and auto play videos are... not.

Not a big fan of site pal.

It may have some usefulness and uniqueness... but I think the drawbacks out weight the benefits.

Drawbacks - load time, distracting from the site`s content, and possibly annoying.

This may seem unrelated, but I don`t think so.

Consider telemarketing. Personally, I screen my calls and turn off the phone ringer. I have no interest at all in telemarketers, and everyone I know understands they should just talk. If I`m there, I answer. They can even bypass the greeting.

But now think about all the people who answer the phone, immediately know it`s a telemarketer, then stay on the line! They listen, talk, and so forth. Why? Mostly because they want to appear to be polite, don`t you think? And they end up wasting their time, trying to figure out how to get out of the call.

To me, the reason "statistics" might show that people stay at a site longer if it uses a SitePal is simply because they don`t want to click away while the movie is loading. They see the download bar, wonder what`s going on, and so they just wait it out.

Do we really know that people are staying because they`re *interested* in the SitePal? I don`t believe we do.

Personally, I surf the net to find information. If I don`t see it very quickly on a result site, I just click away and look somewhere else. Even the SitePal Web site didn`t interest me. I clicked the `Overview,` and got about 10-seconds into the speech, then blew it off. But that`s just me, and my browing style. :-)

If I pull up a site and am greeted by a `pal`, I immediately back out.  I find them annoying and distracting when searching for information.  I`m not sure why - as I have no valid reason for this - but my impression is that sites that use them are of a lower caliber.  It`s just the impression I get from the `pal` animation - and strictly my own personal opionion.
