On a separate website than my other artwork, I`m going to start marketing to draw people`s homes in my poster style.  Below is an example so you know what I mean.  I started a thread before where these two site names emerged. Read the discussion if you`d like.

Now which do you like best?  I`m torn between the two!  Posterofyourhome.com is very self explanatory and I like the clarity of that.  On the other hand, homeinaposter.com has a nice ring to it.  It`s more catchy, I think.

Looks like homeinaposter is the contender so far but I want to see more votes.

Gosh, I just cast my vote that made it dead even.  I voted posterofyourhome because you are selling posters not homes; it`s the first word.  The great thing is, you have a great product so ultimately it won`t matter.

D`oh!  I just realized that I typed out the poll incorrectly!  It`s supposed to be posterofmyhome.com, not posterofyourhome.  I wanted it to read from the customer`s perspective, not mine.

And I can`t edit a poll.  What gives with that Startup Nation?

Cool poster!  I would use both names and have one redirected to the one you like best.  Especially seeing a 50/50 spread in voting.

Bert, what do you mean am I ready for business at this site?  I have not designed the site yet, meaning I have nothing to launch when I choose a name.  But I am ready for business.  I`ve got all I need, tools and talent, to start making posters.  I`ve been doing it already.

Steve, even though you made a mistake in the poll, I still think that posterofyourhome is the best choice, because it has the word "your" in it. Pyschologically speaking, "your" and "you" is  much more powerful and personal than "my" and "me."  For example, if you were scanning ads online, which of these two headlines would be more appealing to you?

A. Would You Like A Poster Of Your Home?

B. Would You Like A Poster Of My Home?

I` think it`s safe to say, that most people would choose headline A, because it speaks directly to "you." It`s more personal. See my point?

posterofyourhome is also crystal clear and self-explanatory.

That said, allow me to play devil`s advocate with myself. MySpace has proven beyond any doubt that having the word "my" in your URL can indeed work.

So, since either domain name will work, choosing a name really comes down to personal preference.

Great question, Andrew. The answer is absolutely! If you know what you`re doing SEO wise, even if someone typed in the keyword phrase "poster of my home," the keyword phrase "poster of your home" could still achieve a high ranking, because it contains three out of the four keywords being searched.

For example if you went to Google and typed in "poster of my home," you`ll see that out of the top 10 positions, only one of the domains actually has "my" in it.

So yes, it could definitely work from a search standpoint - if you know what you`re doing and I suspect Steve knows what he`s doing.

Well of course a direct phrase will hit higher on a search but Dale is right about 3 out of 4 words being good too.  The direction I am going in is that the site name is not the business name.  The site name is a tool for helping people find what I do, whether by search engine or remembering it by word of mouth.

Posterofmyhome, posterofyourhome - it doesn`t really matter to Google.  The copy within the site will most likely be me speaking to the customer so it will have phrases like "poster of your home" in it.  That is an argument for your over my by keeping the tense consistent.

Then again, there`s no rule that says I can`t switch that around, meaning use my in the URL and the copy coming from my voice.  I do like the site name being from the customer`s perspective because this is a step in getting to my site that they do.  They search, they click a link, they type in the URL, they read "posterofmyhome".

The thing is, I don`t think anyone will be confused if it reads my or your.  I think both will get the point across.  The web will not be my main focus of advertising but the site will be a place to direct people through other marketing materials.

Just some thoughts.

Keep in mind that "of" "my" and "your" get dropped anyway in a Google query. So whether you type "poster of my home" or "poster of your home," Google reads it as "poster home."

On the other hand, "poster home" puts the main emphasis on poster, where "home poster" puts it on home. In terms of relevancy, there should be something about "house" don`t`cha think?

So what about posterofmyhouse.com or myhouseinaposter.com? After all, people tend to say they`re getting work on on their house, at least as often as that they`re getting work done on their home....right?

Actually, Google does use the "my" or "Your" in the search results. So, there will be different search results depending upon if the person searches using "my" or  using "your".

Assuming you have registered to a site with your email, a username and password, which do you think would be easiest to login on return visits to the site?

Please vote and feel free to discuss your thoughts.

I prefer Username & Password because Email is usually longer.

Hostclick, thanks for pointing me to OpenID.  I had never heard of them.  It looks like a good service but I don`t think it will really work for us.  For the site we are building, having a username is actually part of the user experience, as in commenting on content and so forth.

One of the problems with usernames is that one often doesn`t have the same username over several different websites.  However, people like to keep those kinds of things consistent.  But because of this problem, it may be more difficult to remember and keep track of what username goes with what site.

It`s easier for people to remember their own email addresses.  Even if people have several email addresses, like me, they often use one for their online presence.  I think this is why most people prefer using their email.
