Wondering how many daily views/hits your small business website gets on a daily basis?  Average please.  Thanks.

I`m wondering if the number of views is actually a useful number? Wouldn`t it be more important to know the conversion number---the number of people who buy a product, in relation to the number of views? We`re finding that we get only a small number of visitors per day, but that almost 1 out of 4 buy something.

I agree, it would be more useful to ask for number of unique visitors per day rather than page views.

@MrMusicHead - Unless viewing a particular page is what you are trying to accomplish and it counts a conversion.  However, uniques visitors still won`t tell you much unless you factor in the bounce rate.  If your site is getting gobs of hits but the bounce rate is high then it`s not good traffic.
@CMJOffice - I think your numbers are scaled too low.  Aside form that, visitors to your site don`t mean a thing unless they are doing what you set out for them to do.  Before you can determine if your site is doing well or not, you have to decide how you will calculate that and the factors involved.

Actually, as we`ve gotten more knowledgeable about Google Analytics, we`re finding that the number of, and length of views to particular pages is helpful. We`re learning what our customers are more interested in, and that helps us flesh out or expand our information on those topics.

So we don`t really care how many viewers we`re getting, per se; we`re more interested in how long they`re staying on each page.

I have always been suspect of the length of stay stats for pages...I know I walk away from my computer mid-surf, so others must do it, too.

:-) You can be suspicious of all machine-counted statistics, though. "Visit" can be an automated `bot, a mistaken click, or whatever other accidental click on the page.

Like anything, you take the number and remove a reasonable percentage of "noise." In other words, although some people walk away from their computer, we know that isn`t true for every, single person, right?

@yottazoo - I do like the unique visitors statistic... I like to know how many people (approx.) come to my site per day and what drives that traffic. When there`s a spike, I want to know why and where those people came from (ie. blog post, review, media mention, etc.). But yes, ultimately, it is the conversion ratio (sales or mailing list additions or whatever your primary goals are) that is most important.

Though a lot of emphasis is put on SEO, it generally doesn`t drive a lot of traffic to my site. Referrers do. Get the right referrer and BOOM... you`ll have a happy day! :)

I`m not discounting SEO, I just think an inordinate proportion of attention is paid to it when there are other factors that can be just as, if not more, effective.
