Good Points. Every local paper or Tv/Radio talk show wants some local talent. Like you say it is a good way to hone your skills.
I learned that HD TV really does show wrinkles and there is make-up for that! I don’t think I would have been aware of these products if it wasn’t for a TV show I was on and the anchors were all applying.

Another similar tactic is reaching out to local websites & bloggers (sometimes called hyperlocal) and pitching them. You can also reach out to local/regional press that covers your specific industry. All great ways to cut your teeth talking to media.
