Landing Page Tips - Part One
This is the first post in a series covering Landing Page tips to help you improve the performance of your campaign or website Landing Pages. Follow these tips, and see your Landing Pages generate more leads, orders and sales.
Landing Page Tips
1. Send People to the Right Page
If your online marketing campaigns send everyone to the home page, you are missing out on the opportunity to customize your Landing Pages to resonate most directly with your prospective customers. Instead of the home page, direct people to a highly relevant page that ties in with the marketing campaign that drove them to the page.
2. Calibrate Your Headlines
Similarly, make sure that your Landing Page headline uses similar language to the page that drove the visit or the copy from the referring ad. It’s critical that you establish relevancy immediately when the visitor lands on the page.
3. Get to the Important Points Right Away
Readers will often skim a page rather than read word-for-word. They rarely read an entire page. Highlight your most important points at the top of the page.
4. Define a Single Landing Page Objective
Don’t try to do too much with a Landing Page. Instead, you’ll find more success by defining one, single objective and then applying a laser focus to achieving that objective on the page.
5. Test Like Crazy
Never assume anything about your Landing Pages. Instead, test, test and test some more. You can test colors, headlines, images, Calls-to-Action, text length, offers…the sky is the limit.
These are just a few suggestions to help you construct great online Landing Pages that drive conversions. Be sure to read the additional posts in this blog series on Landing Page tips as well, to be published later this month. If you need additional help, let me know below or at www.WebsiteMarketingNOW.com. Thanks!

One more point, they should load in super quick time.
Sometimes the landing page , which is home page have loads of links and information and it really slows down.
Ideal time less than 4 seconds

I would also recommend that you optimize the content. Optimized content matters for Google AdWords Quality Scores and improves SEO. Landing pages are powerful if you have traffic.
Disclosure: We have just launched a new preditive content analysis application at https://optimizer.ecordia.com. Obviously we think content is crucial on landing pages for PPC and SEO work.
Analysis provides insight but must be paired with strong layout to have an effective landing page.

Great post!
One other tip that may be obvious, but can sometimes be overlooked - take a look at what your competitors are doing on their landing pages for insights. Look for special offers and other calls to action that may be setting them apart.

Landing pages are very important and not enough is written about them so thanks for this important resource. Here are a few additional tips that you can find under http://www.dynamicalsoftware.com/online/marketing which is a collective solution on web based marketing ideas; minimize visual distractions, reduce anxiety, enhance affinity, have a clear call to action. As a corollary to tip #2, use permalinks where the path contains calibrated keywords.

Scott, thanks again for your comments. I took a quick glance through your website. Very nice. Here are a few comments that I hope you find helpful in taking the site to the next level:
* Your home page has a LOT of text in a vertical block. Try breaking up the page with more visual elements to make it EASIER TO SCAN.
* You use the same exact image in the right column on every page. I recommend adding unique images that are relevant to the page on each page.
* The site does not contain any internal, contextual links. I would recommend adding these and building out content accordingly to ensure that site visitors get all the answers they are seeking.
* Ethically, I just have a question as to whether people should feel that it’s OK to have a service represent them online without disclosure.
* The site currently lacks the “WOW!” factor. Are there any value-adds that you can offer on the site that would be of great interest and relevance to your audience? That would get other sites talking about you and linking to you?
I hope that these comments are helpful.

It seems so simple. But when you try to put these 5 points together to make a page, it takes a lot of practice. Can you provide some examples of landing pages you think work well?
