I think I may have missed an important concept. Should One follow the use of company names, web sites or just follow the pulse of an entire industry?

Thanks

Heather,
I am impressed with the knowledge you posted about branding. I sure wish I had known about this about five years ago when someone used our nonprofit business name to solicit donations from the public and posted misinformation about the work we do. I will put the knowledge I gained here to good use and protect our organization. Thank you for providing me with the means to do this.

Thanks John!

I did come across you site during my research, however I wanted to just stick with some of the FREE tools for those beginning brand monitoring. I'm sure as their brand monitoring needs increase, they will seek out professional services like yours.

Great article Heather and thanks Erin for being a happy customer of Andiamo Systems! We typically recommend that smaller, or less 'buzzy' companies and brands test drive the free tool and Google Alerts. etc. But what many marketers discover is that when they track their own brand and campaigns, and then start adding competing brands, it's just too daunting to keep up with and make sense of. And that's when it's wise to consider a professional solution, especially one that measures consumer opinion and sentiment so you can track and take action on reputation issues and get insight into your brand health.

We're happy to provide a free trial of our service. Any reader can contact us for a request by emailing 'Sales AT andiamosystems DOT COM'

We use a few of these plus Andiamo Systems, they help us measure positive vs negative mentions which I like. Recently we found a customer that really just need a service question answered, instead of waiting for them to call support we called them and got them on their way again and it resulted in a positive mention. Once you start to realize who your biggest influencers are, you can engage them.

Great list of resources here, Heather. With the instant feedback that's available now - Twitter, blogs, forums, etc - not knowing what's being said about you is kin to just sticking your head in the sand. And we all know that doesn't work.

Best form of defense? Simply strike up a conversation with the "protagonist" and see if there's any common ground you can work on to make something better. Antagonizing any further with sharp rebuttals doesn't help anyone's cause.

Cheers again!
