Severance?!? What's that? LOL. I even lost all accrued PTO (vacation, sick personal) and they barely paid me what they owed me as I was scheduled to have 3 days off the following week. In 2006, 5 weeks after getting married, I got laid off after 7 years at an ad agency They're actually part of a publicly traded global company. Employees were told they had to sign paperwork understanding they would not see any unused PTO upon leaving the company but it was still a punch in the gut when it happened. My business is still being funded by whatever I can scrape together until I hit the big time.
