Ok...it works!
I agree with earlier comments.
BTW...when you use two comforters or blankets it is just to much on the bed

I do love the manner in which you have framed this specific matter and it does indeed give us a lot of fodder for thought. Nevertheless, coming from what precisely I have personally seen, I just wish when other feedback pile on that folks stay on issue and not start upon a soap box of some other news of the day. Anyway, thank you for this superb piece and while I can not concur with the idea in totality, I value your point of view.

I say the best way is what Kim states. I had been looking for a nice down comforter. We always put our main bedspread, blanket at the end of the bed and te sheet too, then we unfold our blankets to sleep with. So I think this is a great idea and could go a step further with adding down comforters or blankets. The problem with two twin down comforters is the price. It cost so much more to buy two than one large one but we choose to do so knowing we would be happy and we each pick what kind of Devut we like, they over the top and coverlet usually does it and throw pillows. The only thing left to pick was the bottom fitted sheet but we opted for a lambs wool topper. It wicks away heat and is so comfortable. I place m bed and what we sleep with high on my list of must haves!

fighting for the sheet can be a problem, but doesn't that usually cause a couple to cuddle up a little closer? good idea though, hope it is successful.

How funny Kim .."I don't even know he's there!"

I would love to try Double Ups. I like owning all the sheets and covers in bed. :)

Good luck Double Ups for Beds!

Scandinavians solve this problem by having two single down comforters in their own "sheet" slip cover. Americans try to have one giant comforter over the top of a sheet, but really, it works better to have two single comforters in covers that act as sheets also (no top sheet on the bed). We've been sleeping this way for over 20 years and have introduced the concept to many friends. It IS the way to maintain marital bliss. Add this to my Sleep Number Bed with dual controls and I don't even know he's there!
