The Mistake Bank

I’m not much of a fan of Ning but this The Mistake Bank site seems like an interesting site.

The Mistake Bank is a place to share stories of mistakes people have made in their lives and careers. After you sign up, you can contribute videos or blog posts recounting your mistakes that you think others could learn from. Start a forum topic or participate in an existing forum.

Obviously top 10 lists are a positive and quick-feed learning tool, but what about the case study approach analyzing “learning through failure?”

    Hi Christine,

What is it specifically about Ning.com that makes you “not much of a fan.”?

I’m curious because I’ve recently been doing some research and auditing of Ning, along with other turn-key social networking sites.

The Mistake Bank does seem to be a great idea. I could increase their page count by tenfold with some of my own “faux pas”. :)

Ning seems to be an also-ran. With so many apps out there with much more volume, and all the passwords and profiles I already have - the value propositioin just isn’t there.

As with all these sorts of things, it’s the content that gets people to go and come back. I’m not interested enough in other people’s mistakes to create a log in and mine this, however I think it’s an interesting topic to consider for blogging, articles or a portion of the site where people can share and learn.

    Hi, Christine,

Thanks so much for mentioning The Mistake Bank on your blog. What I’ve found so far is that the stories are interesting, and the conversations around the stories add a lot of interest and depth to the discussions. As the amount of content increases, it will become more useful as a repository people can dip into whenever they feel like they could use some perspective. For example, when they make a change or consider a significant decision. Please consider joining.

And Brian, we’d love as many of your faux pas stories as you can load on us. There are never too many. Give us a visit.

    regards, John
