Getting on QVC!
How do I get on QVC? This is the most frequently asked question I get from everyone, everyday.
My answer! Pray, hire a good agent and make sure you and the product are ready. Being a QVC vendor for over 8 years now, I see new products come and go every day. The things that I hear from the buyers, and the QA department, is “Great product, it is just not ready for us yet.”
Here are the main reasons you do not get on QVC:
1) Product does not fit QVC demographics
2) Manufacturing is not completed
3) Pricing is not right
4) You submitted via: QVC product search, or over the internet…….
A few statistics for you-
- QVC gets over 2000 submission forms daily for new product reviews
- 3% of them get a first airing
- 1/2 % of that get a subsequent airing
Hints for success-
-
Be read
-
Know QVC demographics (visit their web page for info)
-
Get your manufacturing ready to go
-
Pricing is KEY
-

Where do you find a good QV agent? How much do they charge?

I designed a privacy screen for college students. But, it has morphed into something that has multiple uses.
I have been told my lots of people to try and get it on QVC or even THE BIG IDEA!
But, it’s a big cumbersome unit. However, I have sold TONS of these to teachers who use it for Open House night; to community health organizations who use it for temporary partitions when giving free exams at neighborhood centers; artists use it to display their work. . . and multiple other uses.

QVC agents, like retail buyers, are considered creatures of the night. They are very rarely seen by humans in daylight. They are very illusive and tend not advertise themselves because they want their anonymity to be upheld……
The best way to get a good agent is through word of mouth. I think currently I am the only agent that goes out of my way to let people know what I do, and that I can help them. The theory of the agent being hush…hush…is so that they do not get bombarded when their identity is divulged…GO FIGURE! I do not solicit this theory however. A good agent is worth their weight in GOLD, and if no one knows about you expect industry insiders, how will the others outside of that industry hear about you.

Your idea is great! Not sure it fits QVC demographics however.
QVC Demographics- Female, homemaker, 55+, 65K annual salary, who shops strictly for her enjoyment, and use, of household goods, she only buys for others in 4th Q gift giving time…..
Hope that helps!

Kim, I listened to your interview and you mentioned that you received a $300 dollar microloan for your enterprise. I also understand that you made your own prototypes (283 inch zipper - way to go!!). How did you go from that to manufacturing with such a small amount of money. My reason for asking is that my wife has come with an idea for a product and ‘assigned’ me the legwork to get it manufactured.
thanks for your help and inspiration

Kim,
I just found this site and thanks for all the great information. I too am in the process of wondering if QVC is something that should be looked into. I however have a food product. It does fit the demographics extremely well and it is something that is unique. The agents is where I am lost.
Thank you

Kim, I currently have an idea with a portfolio in patent pending status. My idea is currently being marketed thru Invention Home only. I really only want to sell the idea only, but I am not sure who to personally market the idea to. I am 100% confident that this idea would be the hottest thing on the market, very useful and inexpensive. It is such a great idea that I know could be so very successful if the right person heard the idea. Does QVC only use products that have been marketed or are they interested in inventions??? Just wondering, I have decided to try to possibly market my idea on my own along with Invention Home. Thanks for any advice you could give… if you know anyone interested in marketing a great product in the cleaning/household dept please give them my e-mail and I will send them my portfolio. Thanks again and have a great day!!! jessica

Hi Kim,
I came up with an addition invention on a product that is sold in Walmart. Would I go to the company that makes the product and tell them I have an idea that would help to sell more of their product? Can you sell a product independently that goes with someones else’s product?
