Apple’s new iPhone

Ravenous. That’s how I describe the scene today at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, NC. My wife and I were goofing around and thought we would check out the Apple store. Bad idea for my sanity but a great example of branding at its best. So when I got home, I checked YouTube & Digg.com to see what the most popular videos and stories were for the day … You guessed it. The iPhone.
Steve Jobs has done it again. For all the critics, he has also created one of the most passionate followings of any brand. Think Mercedes or Nike or even Pepsi (or Coke). Loyalists.
As I punch this out on my iBook, I dare say I fall into a similar category. I’m a loyalist, too.
Computer? Mac (though my CTO refuses to accept it)
Beer? Sierra Nevada
Car? Chevy Tahoe (I love it)
Loyalty. There’s something admirable to say about that.

If you pay attention to the majority of motion pictures or TV shows, you almost always see the characters using Macs. Apple has the best product placement I’ve ever seen in the entertainment industry!
I occassionally glimps a Sony Viao, or other Windows machine that has a somewhat sleek design…but this is a rarity.
I’m still personally a PC guy, but Steve Jobs and Apple has done a terrific job of changing my opinion of the brand. I used to argue against performance issues…etc…now I simply stick to my Dell because it’s inexpensive and I’m very familiar with Windows.
On that note, with Apple using Intel processors and supporting the Windows OS…I may soon be able to stick that "one bite apple" sticker in the back of my car window.

You’re right! Apple has done a great job with product placement/positioning.
I’ve always been a PC guy myself, but lately, I’ve found myself at the store checking out the Macs (too be honest, I’ve been to the apple store 7 times over the last 45 days, and each time I almost walk out the door with one — I think on the 8th visit it’ll probably happen).
I hear nothing but good things about their computers, so I myself may become a convert!

What are some other brands that have done a good job in changing perceptions through innovation? Toyota? (the first to introduce hybrids)
