Road Trip!!!!

Our L.A. - San Fran - Chicago road trip is complete. Actually, it involved 4 flights ending up back at the StartupNation HQ in Michigan.

What a blast we had! The photo is from our chicago breakfast panel sponsored by Washington Mutual. Entrepreneurs were IN THE HOUSE! and they were looking for answers to their questions.

One question stood out, though. It had more to do with personal branding than business branding:

"What should I do if my name ‘Toneidra’ (pronounced Te-Ne-Dra) is hard to pronounce? Should I use an alias name that’s easier to pronounce?"

I took the photo from my Verizon Treo from the podium - you can see Toneidra standing on the left at one of the open mics.

What’s your opionion? Your advice? Should she keep her unique name or ditch it for something more ordinary?

We said, "KEEP THAT NAME - IT ROCKS!!!"

Of course you should find an alias that’s easy to pronounce and remember. Customer first!!!

We are a culture that celebrates unique expressions. Individualized ring tones (I know you have La Vida Loca on your Treo!), DIY hair dyes, and more scents of fabric softener than you can count on two hands.

Keep it - I LOVE the name. I may not remember it five minutes after I meet Toneidra (but what names do we remember anyways?), but if I got a call five days later, I’d know exactly who is was.
