I have my own freelance graphic design company and i hear alot about blogging to generate leads. Who here is blogging and has it been effective ? Where do you place your blog ? In directories ?

Blogging is a great way to help get you more publicity, as well as to send more traffic to your site. If you have an existing web site, you would add your blog to your site. As for the benefits; it helps show your customers and potential customers that you know your industry well, and will help people view you as an expert on what you do. You should however update your blog constantly with relevant content, otherwise your followers will go elsewhere.
Blogs are used for different purposes, but mostly person are doing blogging for the promotion of their business. Blogging is one of the low cost marketing device; it helps business to add fresh content of their sites on these blogs that aware the customers about fresh offers. It also increases traffic by providing back links.
Blogging can you help you generate leads, however I wouldn't use it solely for that purpose. The leads you do get will be more so a byproduct of you adding fresh content to your site which brings added traffic and higher search engine rankings. Still, the best way to generate leads is good ole fashioned PPC lead capture landing page. Good luck.
GraphicDesigner1, what you want to do is join a free blogging site like Blogger.com or Wordpress.com/org. Start generating some quality content based on your area of expertise. Then, focus on distribution!
Distribution is the key to your success. Every time you write a new article, post it to social bookmarking sites like Digg.com and StumbleUpon.com. I also suggest posting it to forums (like this one) that have members in your target market. Additionally, be sure to post to sites like Facebook and Twitter. And the money pot for driving traffic is to coerce other bloggers into letting you write content for them! That way, their readership will see your content and likely travel over to your blog and website!
