How to start your own business (even if you can’t find the RIGHT business idea)!

Looking for the right business idea can be a daunting task. But with these 10 tips you can put that task into perspective and bring out that entrepreneurial passion that’s been hiding inside you all of this time!

10 Tips to help you find the RIGHT business idea

If you could do anything in this world and money wasn’t an issue, what would it be? Hmm… You just can’t answer that question. You have such a hard time figuring out what you’re passionate about, yet you know you are a passionate person. Is something wrong with you? No way. Actually, it seems like the majority of us are just like that. It doesn’t come natural to us to just be in touch with our true self, for several reasons which I am not going to mention here. For those who got there and found the right business idea, it was a long and hard process. They have just never given up.

So, what can you do?

1. If you are pushing yourself too hard:

(possible signs: self-doubt, anxiety, negative self-talk), please, stop immediately: there is a reason why you don’t seem to find your passions and true desires, they are so deeply buried inside you that you are not going to get them out in 2 days. Give yourself permission to wait.

2. Trust yourself: and trust me, you DO have a passion for something. It is just something holding you back from finding it. So don’t give up. Nobody said it was supposed to be easy, right?

3. Give yourself time: schedule a daily time for introspection. Think about your childhood: what were you good at? What did you enjoyed so much that time flew away without you noticing? What subjects did you enjoy the most while in school?

4. Don’t confuse your skills with your passions: just because you are so good at analyzing Excel reports does not mean that you should spend your life teaching others how to do the same thing. You are good at something because you have been building this skill over a period of time. Even the really gifted people, unless they practice every day they don’t just rise to the top in their field.

5. Keep a journal: write down what are you feeling, what are the things, facts, dreams which cross your mind. You’ll soon start to make connections between them. Everything can be confusing right now, but after a while, if you go back to what you wrote, things will start to become clearer.

6. Start a scrapping project: just go online and browse without a special objective in mind. Look at pictures on the blogs you are following. If there is one image that resonates with you for some reason, just save it in a folder. Or, even better, print it and make a special file. When you have at least 20 images together, find a nice quiet place and go through the file. Can you see a connection between the images? Are they telling you something? Let your thoughts flow in your mind. What are you thinking about?

7. Use your imagination in your advantage: think about how a perfect day in your life would look like. What hour would you wake up in the morning? Where? What would you have for breakfast? With whom? Now imagine you would go to work? What would you do and how many hours a day? What would you do in the afternoon? What about evenings? What would you think about 1 minute before falling asleep? Ok. Now, what can you do today to make this happen in 1 year?

8. Make your plan: choose your objective and your time-frame: (e.g. by December 2015 I want to sell crafting online training and make 3000 $ per month working from home). Now make a plan with detailed steps to take starting today to make this goal happen.

Also, don’t quit your day job just yet, unless you have some savings you can use to pay your bills for at least the following 6-12 months.

9. Find an accountability partner/mastermind group: it is very important to surround yourself with people who understand what you are going through and who are thinking the same way you are. So look for startup local groups or go online (Reddit, Facebook groups etc). Or why not, start your own local/online group!

10. Don’t give up: listen, I don’t mean to say that entrepreneurship is all pink-painted, it’s going to be hard and it’s going to take some time. You are not going to earn a 6 figure income in the first year of your business idea (although this is highly possible!). But if you go on doing what you know you have to do and don’t give up, you have a high chance of succeeding. The majority of entrepreneurs who are failing in the first year are doing so because at some point in time they stop. They stop believing, dreaming, trusting themselves, hoping, learning and applying what they learned .

My final words of advice: your life is full of opportunities. Pick one, commit to it, have faith and jump. There are only two possibilities: you’ll either succeed or you’ll fail. Either way, you won’t live with the regret of never trying.

Are you going to reserve some time to find your best business idea to work on in 2015? I know, it’s challenging, but I am sure you can do it! So declare your commitment by leaving a comment below. Let’s do this!
